The concert was filled with electric energy, dynamic performances, and emotional interactions with fans. Notable highlights included impressive songs like ‘MATZ’ and ‘Guerrilla,’ much enhanced by spectacular staging and choreography, which left a lasting impression on attendees.

Music critic Anna Frankland shares her experience at ATEEZ’s concert in London as part of their world tour, ‘Towards the Light: Will to Power’. ATEEZ is known for pushing K-pop boundaries and their popularity has expanded globally, marking their fourth performance in the UK. The European leg began in January 2025 following the release of their latest EP, and the energy in the crowd during the first London show was electric.

In the concert pit at O2 Arena, the excitement was palpable, especially after the group’s soundcheck where they interacted with fans. The K-pop experience was enriched by community spirit, extravagant outfits, and friendship exchanges, creating a festive atmosphere filled with mutual appreciation for the artists.

ATEEZ opened with a dynamic performance of ‘Crazy Form,’ showcasing their powerful vocals and choreographed dancing. Notably, members Yunho and San demonstrated impressive stage presence while maintaining energised choreography throughout the two-and-a-half-hour show. The concert also featured lighter moments, with ATEEZ interacting with fans, expressing gratitude, and sharing experiences. Hongjoong notably engaged fans with a sing-along of Oasis’s ‘Wonderwall,’ highlighting the sincere bond between the group and their audience.

James Vowles of Williams Racing stated that booing has no place in Formula 1, reflecting on recent controversies at the sport’s anniversary event. He highlighted the need for respect and professionalism amidst the rising tribalism in F1. Toto Wolff of Mercedes agreed, emphasizing the importance of a balanced approach to drivers’ language and conduct, especially towards officials and competitors.

James Vowles, Team Principal of Williams Racing, commented on the booing and swearing controversies in Formula 1, asserting that there is no place for booing in the sport. Despite instances of audience booing at the recent 75th anniversary launch event directed at Max Verstappen and others, Vowles believes this negativity won’t detract from F1’s growth, highlighting the sport’s strong appeal.

Vowles expressed disappointment over the booing, stating, “I don’t think there’s a place for booing. We were there to represent our sport that we’re passionate about.” He underscored the need to present F1 positively rather than in a divisive manner, clearly indicating it should not be a hero versus villain environment.

When discussing swearing, Vowles acknowledged that drivers might use harsh language in high-pressure situations, saying, “if a driver is in the car putting their life on the line… you would use words you’re not proud of in the heat of the moment.” However, he insisted that such language should not be used in press conferences.

Toto Wolff, Team Principal of Mercedes, shared similar sentiments, emphasising respect in the sport and advocating for a more sophisticated language approach, akin to rugby. He noted, “I don’t think we should be swearing about officials. That’s for sure,” echoing Vowles that heated emotions should not lead to disrespect towards competitors or officials.

Both Vowles and Wolff argued for a balanced perspective amidst rising tribalism in F1, stressing the need for clarity in FIA regulations regarding permitted language. They believe that while emotional expressions in racing are natural, swearing should not extend to disrespectful comments directed at others in the sport.

Overall, the consensus among team principals is to uphold respect and professionalism within Formula 1, guiding the sport towards a more positive, inclusive atmosphere while managing the expectations of fans and drivers alike.

Vowles and Wolff’s viewpoints advocate for a respectful environment in Formula 1, highlighting the need to eliminate booing and inappropriate language. With F1’s growth on the line, they assert that fans should celebrate drivers rather than incite negativity. Drivers’ emotions should be acknowledged, but with a clear boundary supported by the FIA’s regulations to foster a constructive atmosphere in motorsport.

The F175 launch provoked divided opinions among Formula 1 fans, particularly regarding booing directed at Christian Horner, Max Verstappen, and the FIA. While some writers justify booing as a part of sports culture, others deem it inappropriate for a celebratory event, leading to discussions over fan expression and the FIA’s role. This debate showcases the evolving nature of fan engagement in F1.

The F175 launch event highlighted divided opinions among fans, notably with booing directed at Red Bull’s Christian Horner, Max Verstappen, and the FIA. This booing sparked discussions within the Formula 1 community about its appropriateness, with writers offering varied insights.

Ben Hunt believes that if cheering is acceptable, booing should be too. He acknowledges booing as part of the evolving nature of F1, asserting that fan reactions are organic and significant, paralleling the emotional outpouring that characterizes live sports.

Conversely, Jake Boxall-Legge argues that F1 is not a sport where booing fits comfortably. He notes that while booing in football is common, it feels one-sided and was out of place during the celebratory atmosphere of F175. The discomfort of Horner and Verstappen was apparent, detracting from the event’s intended spirit.

Alex Kalinauckas emphasises that booing is a timeless aspect of sport, pointing out that F1 drivers like Verstappen, who embrace the role of the villain, should expect fan reactions, even at promotional events. The launch in London was appropriate given the geography of teams and fan expectations.

Mark Mann-Bryans insists that fans paid to attend F175 and should express themselves freely, as long as it’s within the bounds of decency. The event’s sold-out tickets suggest an eager audience, and simple jeering reflects the nature of sports entertainment.

Oleg Karpov presents a critical view of the FIA’s role, stating that it shouldn’t seek popularity. Booing doesn’t signify failure, but rather a response to the FIA’s current leadership image. Instead of reacting negatively, it’s best to acknowledge that silence would have indicated the FIA’s job was being done effectively.

In summary, the booing at F175 opens a dialogue about fan engagement in F1. While some writers see booing as a normal expression of sport, others regard it as misplaced at celebratory events. The FIA’s role and the fans’ rights to express emotion are central to this ongoing discussion in the sport.

The booing at F175 ignited a debate within the F1 community about the appropriateness of fan reactions during promotional events. Opinions range from support for the fans’ right to express themselves to concerns about the impact of such reactions on the atmosphere of the event. Ultimately, this conversation reflects the dynamic nature of F1 and the complex relationships between fans, teams, and governing bodies.

The FIA has confirmed a mandatory two-stop strategy for the Monaco GP, requiring at least two pit stops and the use of three tyre sets with two compounds in dry conditions. This aims to improve the race’s entertainment value, addressing difficulties in overtaking. Additional regulations on wing flex tests and driver cooling systems were also discussed at a recent commission meeting.

The FIA has mandated a two-stop pit strategy for the Monaco Grand Prix, requiring all drivers to make at least two pit stops during the race, irrespective of the weather. This decision is aimed at enhancing the entertainment value of the event due to the traditionally challenging overtaking conditions in Monaco.

Additionally, drivers must use a minimum of three sets of tyres and two different compounds if the race is dry. This change follows concerns over a lack of competition, and last year’s race highlighted the effectiveness of single-stop strategies which had limited overtaking opportunities.

The commission meeting, held before the F175 livery launch, also introduced more strict wing flex tests for the 2025 season and established new cooling system parameters for when a heat hazard is declared.

New cooling technology for drivers, like the optional wearable shirts, will become mandatory by 2026. This is part of broader plans to adapt regulations in response to evolving safety and performance challenges in Formula 1.

The FIA’s approval of a mandatory two-stop strategy aims to boost action during the Monaco GP, addressing past issues with race entertainment. As teams prepare for these changes, strict regulations on wing flex and driver cooling systems are also being implemented to enhance safety and performance.

The F1 season launch event in London blended entertainment with the unveiling of car liveries. Hosted by Jack Whitehall, it featured a mix of performances and offered excitement for attendees. Despite some cringeworthy moments, the event was generally deemed enjoyable, drawing significant online viewership. The future of this pre-season format remains uncertain but may recur for special anniversaries.

Attending the F1 season launch event in London was quite the experience, full of glitz and a bit of surprise. Formula 1, aiming to captivate its growing audience, organised a lively ceremony featuring all 10 teams and their drivers, hosted by comedian Jack Whitehall. While expectations were low due to previous cringe-worthy events, this one offered a night of enjoyment at the O2 Arena that was ultimately better than anticipated.

The two-hour event showcased each team’s car liveries for the season, although most were similar to last year’s designs, with the notable exception of a striking white VCARB creation reminiscent of Red Bull’s previous iconic look. F1 managed to refer to the reveals correctly as ‘liveries’, acknowledging these are not the actual cars that will race soon. Enhanced with entertainment, the night was enjoyable overall, despite some minor awkward moments throughout.

Jack Whitehall brought a burst of youthful energy to the proceedings, poking fun at the attendees, though some jokes felt forced. Notably, the light-hearted comments about Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc focused more on his looks than his racing abilities, leaving him appearing slightly uncomfortable. There were awkward moments too, like American artist MGK’s cringe-inducing F1 freestyle rap and composer Brian Tyler’s failed audience interaction.

Country singer Kane Brown’s performance featured a hit song with questionable lyrics for a family-friendly event, contrasting sharply with F1’s image. Additionally, the FIA logo drew boos from fans expressing dissatisfaction with how the sport is managed currently. The atmosphere turned more positive with cheers for British drivers, especially Lewis Hamilton, whose appearance generated significant excitement among fans.

Despite differing opinions on the event’s opulence, approximately 15,000 attendees left content, and the launch attracted 4.6 million views on YouTube, demonstrating widespread interest. The event was notably well-executed, although it may have felt slightly elongated. Looking to the future, it’s uncertain if this style of livery reveal will become a fixture, but it might make a return for notable anniversaries should F1 find financial value in it.

The F1 season launch presented a mix of entertainment and familiar elements with its eye-catching performances and the showcasing of liveries. While some moments were cringeworthy, the event achieved an enjoyable atmosphere for fans, with a strong turnout both live and online. Whether this format will become a regular feature remains to be seen, depending on its perceived success and commercial viability.

Jack Whitehall will host the Formula 1 season launch at the O2 Arena, celebrating the championship’s 75th anniversary. Performers include Take That and Kane Brown, while each team has a chance to present their cars. Notably, Ferrari will hold a separate car launch the next day.

Comedian Jack Whitehall will host the Formula 1 season launch at London’s O2 Arena on Tuesday, featuring performances by Take That and Kane Brown. This event, titled F1 75, marks the 75th anniversary of the Formula 1 World Championship, bringing together all 10 teams and 20 drivers in a celebratory atmosphere.

The show will include music acts like Machine Gun Kelly and composer Brian Tyler, who will support teams as they present their cars and drivers. Each team has a seven-minute slot for their presentation, although official liveries will not be unveiled until the event.

Despite Ferrari’s absence from media activities, they will launch their car the following morning at the Fiorano test track with drivers Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc. Last week, McLaren and Williams revealed their interim liveries for the 2025 season launch at Silverstone.

Jack Whitehall is set to host the F1 75 season launch, celebrating the 75th anniversary of the Formula 1 Championship. With major performances lined up and each team showcasing their vehicles, this event promises an exciting start to the new season. Notably, while teams participate in presentations, Ferrari will unveil its car separately the day after the launch.
