Charlton Athletic Supporters’ Trust launches a campaign, All Different. All Together. All Charlton, with a fan portrait exhibition at The Valley. Featuring images by Rhea Spencer-Newell, the initiative aims to celebrate diversity and promote community. Stickers showcase personal stories of 30 fans, capturing Charlton’s rich heritage.
Charlton Athletic Supporters’ Trust (CAST) has teamed up with Fans for Diversity to launch a new initiative titled All Different. All Together. All Charlton. The campaign is designed to help current fans embrace their uniqueness while also encouraging newcomers to feel welcomed by the club’s diverse community.
The first part of the campaign is a portrait exhibition opening at The Valley in the Fans’ Bar, timed to coincide with the final league match against Burton Albion on May 3. Photographer Rhea Spencer-Newell has captured the essence of Addicks fans throughout the current season, and their images will also be transformed into football sticker designs by Oliver Watts, reminiscent of classic Charlton collectables.
This exhibition will showcase 30 fan-created stickers, each telling a personal story of support for the club, including depicted individuals such as a Syrian refugee, the captain of Charlton’s LGBTQA+ team, and a young supporter from Milton Keynes who found his home with Charlton.
Heather Alderson, chair of CAST, remarked, “The exhibition is just the start. Look out for more and the online sticker book where Addicks can add their own portraits.” She emphasized the club’s historic community roots and its legacy around anti-racism, suggesting that the atmosphere at Charlton is revitalising after a decade of challenges.
Fans for Diversity’s campaign manager Hannah Kumari added, “All Different. All Together. All Charlton builds on the My City My Shirt initiative. This project celebrates the identity of the club and its fans, showcasing the vibrant, diverse community of south-east London.”
Rhea Spencer-Newell, a student photographer at university and devoted Charlton supporter, has been documenting the club for over a year. Fans can see more of her work on Instagram @rheaphotographs.
The Charlton Athletic Supporters’ Trust is rolling out an exciting new campaign aimed at celebrating the diversity among fans. Through a portrait exhibition and sticker collection, they foster a sense of unity and welcome for all. As the club seeks to reconnect with its community values, many are looking forward to an inclusive future both on and off the pitch.
