Emanuela Tarizzo has been appointed as the new director of Frieze Masters, starting April 2024. The fair will run from 15 to 19 October 2025. Tarizzo will succeed Nathan Clements-Gillespie and aims to strengthen ties with collectors and museums amid Endeavor’s potential sale.

Emanuela Tarizzo has been appointed the new director of Frieze Masters, effective April 2024. This fair, established in 2012, focuses on art created prior to the 21st century and will hold its next edition from 15 to 19 October 2025 in Regent’s Park, alongside Frieze London.

Previously, Tarizzo worked as an independent adviser and a director at the UK gallery Tomasso, which has significant experience with Old Masters and has participated many times at Frieze Masters. She expressed excitement about joining at this crucial moment, highlighting the fair’s innovative approach to historical art and its role within the London art scene.

Tarizzo takes over from Nathan Clements-Gillespie, who left in January after four successful years. Her appointment is significant as Frieze’s parent company, Endeavor, is preparing for a potential sale, a move expected to affect the company’s future.

In her new role, Tarizzo will focus on enhancing relationships with major museums and collectors to further influence the art field. Kristell Chadé, Frieze’s executive director of fairs, emphasised the importance of these connections in shaping the fair’s direction.

Emanuela Tarizzo’s appointment as director of Frieze Masters marks a new chapter for the fair, particularly as it navigates upcoming challenges. Her background in art advisory and gallery leadership positions her well to enhance the fair’s connections within the art community. Frieze Masters, set for October 2025, remains committed to engaging with historical art while appealing to contemporary audiences.
