The 2025 London Book Fair (LBF) showcased over 4,000 titles from 50 Chinese publishers, highlighting collaboration and industry trends. Attended by 30,000 publishing professionals and 1,000 exhibitors, the event facilitated deal signings and discussions on key topics affecting the sector.

Gareth Rapley, former LBF director, noted that the event’s strong participation opens better opportunities globally, particularly praising China’s growing role in publishing. The fair featured 40 activities including launches and seminars, reflecting China’s dedication to international literary engagement.

Glyn Jones from Elsevier shared plans to translate Chinese titles in applied technology, stating it’s “only natural” given China’s technological leadership. The inclusion of these titles underscores the global significance of Chinese innovation.

Emerging technologies are reshaping publishing strategies, with AI playing a role in marketing and audiobook production. Martin Liu, COO at LID Publishing, remarked that while AI aids efficiency, the “nuances and subtleties” of writing require a human touch for true creative expression.

Richard Charkin, former president of the International Publishers Association, emphasized the necessity for publishers to be “gatekeepers” of quality information amidst AI content concerns. He affirmed that despite technological challenges, publishers must focus on connecting authors with readers.
