The Emirates Publishers Association (EPA) is participating in the London Book Fair, featuring seven Emirati publishers, including graduates from the Onshur initiative. This aims to strengthen the UAE’s position in the global publishing industry, promote partnerships, and enhance cultural exchange, showcasing local talent and diverse offerings.
The Emirates Publishers Association (EPA) is enhancing the UAE’s reputation in the global publishing industry through its participation in the London Book Fair, a key event for rights negotiation and content sales. A notable delegation of seven Emirati publishers, including two graduates from the Sharjah Publishing Sustainability Fund (Onshur), is participating this year.
This initiative aims to empower Emirati publishers and establish the UAE as a significant publishing hub. The fair provides opportunities for creating partnerships, exchanging rights, securing translation agreements, and staying updated on global publishing trends.
Among the participating publishers is Kalimat Group, started in 2007, focusing on children’s literature with multiple imprints. Another participant, Dar AlFikr AlJadeed, offers training manuals aimed at business and management professionals. Sidra Publishing translates essential global literary works into Arabic, enriching cultural content.
Additionally, Thaqafa Publishing, founded in 2008, presents high-quality publications for varied interests, while Ugarit Publishing focuses on advanced early childhood education. The EPA pavilion also features winners from Onshur, including Shatha Nasser and Maryam Thani AlFalasi, who translate classic and Asian literature into Arabic, respectively.
Rashid Al Kous, Executive Director of the EPA, noted that the UAE’s growing presence at international events reflects the country’s dynamic publishing sector, emphasising the value of building relationships with global publishers. His comments highlight a commitment to nurturing emerging talent and creating a sustainable publishing environment.
