The Pie Factory Gallery in Margate hosts ‘Repeating Chasms Railway,’ focusing on children’s experiences in war through Barbarita Marks’ artistic expressions, including poems and installations. The exhibition runs until March 17, featuring a collaborative soundscape enhancing its advocacy for children affected by conflict.
An exhibition at Pie Factory Gallery in Margate explores the experiences of children affected by war. Titled “Repeating Chasms Railway,” it features work by local artist Barbarita Marks, who trained at renowned art institutions and developed a passion for etching.
The exhibition presents four key pieces:
1. The Return Journey – An experiential poem with visual elements inviting exploration.
2. A joyful piece that plays with scale on both sides of the paper.
3. A series of ten poems accompanied by imagery.
4. The installation, Repeating Chasms Railway, juxtaposes data to create an archival perspective on ongoing conflicts.
Barbarita emphasises the exhibition’s focus: “The exhibition as a whole focuses on being an advocate for children and their experience of war.” Alongside the artwork, a soundscape created with Alex Caldon raises critical questions about child casualties in warfare, gathering translations of the word “why” to amplify unheard voices.
“Repeating Chasms Railway” can be viewed daily from 11am to 5pm at Pie Factory until March 17.
The exhibition at Pie Factory Gallery highlights the plight of children in war through diverse artistic expressions. Barbarita Marks’ work not only advocates for these children but also encourages public reflection on war’s impact. This ongoing project aims to continue raising awareness beyond the exhibition’s timeframe.
