The 2025 Sony World Photography Awards has announced its finalists for the Professional competition, receiving over 419,000 submissions. The Sony World Photography Awards has announced the finalists and shortlisted photographers for its 2025 Professional competition, now in its 18th year. This year, over 419,000 images from more than 200 countries were submitted. Ten category winners will be revealed at a ceremony in London on 16 April, where the coveted Photographer of the Year will also be announced.
The Photographer of the Year will receive a $25,000 cash prize, Sony digital imaging equipment, and a solo exhibition at next year’s awards. Additionally, a new prize feature will see category winners participate in tailored sessions with industry leaders to enhance their career opportunities.
A highlight of the 2025 Awards is the introduction of the Japan Professional Award, which will recognise exceptional works by Japanese photographers. The finalists’ works will be exhibited at Somerset House from 17 April to 5 May 2025, before touring other locations.
Monica Allende, Chair of the Jury, expressed amazement at the diversity and strength of submissions, emphasising the originality and clarity of vision shown by the finalists. She recognised the various narratives presented, from community themes to personal empowerment, which reflect significant contemporary issues.
