Do Ho Suh’s major exhibition, titled “The Genesis Exhibition: Do Ho Suh: Walk the House,” will debut at Tate Modern this spring, his first solo exhibition in London in over 20 years. The exhibit examines various interpretations of home and identity, featuring new site-specific works that expand his collection of translucent house models.
The title “Walk the House” is inspired by the hanok, a traditional Korean structure that can be dismantled and relocated. Suh explores this concept through the interplay of architecture, space, memory, and the body, noting, “The space I’m interested in is not only a physical one, but an intangible, metaphorical and psychological one.”
Visitors can expect fabric replicas of Suh’s living spaces, including the new installations “Nest/s” and “Perfect Home: London, Horsham, New York, Berlin, Providence, Seoul,” which details his current London residence with bright architectural features.
The exhibition encompasses multiple formats: from installation, sculpture, and video to drawing, including highlights like “Who Am We?” (2000), which showcases portraits from yearbooks; the 2018 film “Robin Hood Gardens”; and “Rubbing/Loving Project: Seoul Home” (2013-2022), a tribute to traditional Korean artistic techniques.
