The Korean Cultural Center in London hosted a workshop on January 31 celebrating Seollal (Lunar New Year). The event showcased Korean culture boxes featuring four displays: a sarangbang (guest reception room), an anbang (women’s quarters), Hanbok (traditional clothing), and traditional musical instruments. Each box provided insights into different aspects of Korean culture and history.

The sarangbang display showcased essential study items from the Joseon Dynasty, including Hanji (traditional paper), a brush, ink, and an inkstone. The anbang display highlighted the inner workings of women’s quarters, featuring traditional ironing tools used by Joseon women.

Visitors had the opportunity to try on Hanbok, with a wide selection of accessories available for both genders, including headgear, pouches, and shoes. Additionally, the event introduced traditional musical instruments like the janggu (drum), gayageum (zither), and geomungo, with demonstrations on how to play these instruments.

Downstairs, further displays featured materials on Korea’s geographical data and Hangeul, the Korean alphabet, which were both informative and engaging. At the end of the workshop, each guest received a beautifully wrapped publication on the event, showcasing traditional bojagi cloth.

The workshop at the Korean Cultural Center in London effectively highlighted various elements of Korean culture in celebration of Seollal. Attendees engaged with displays on traditional living spaces, clothing, and music, providing an immersive experience. The event concluded with meaningful gifts, reinforcing cultural appreciation.
